Take Flight With Vormetric At RSA Conference

While I usually blog about the woes plaguing the data world – Yes, Data Breaches, this time around I wanted to preview a cool, new campaign Vormetric will be unveiling and goodies we’ll be handing out at the RSA Conference USA 2014 and Cloud Security Alliance Summit at RSA 2014 February 24-28, 2014.

Since data cannot defend itself, we’ve created a campaign that gives data a chance to do so. For example, if a social security cards or financial records could defend themselves what would they use? The answer: jet fighters. If birth certificates could defend themselves perhaps they may turn into a samurai or a knight. And what about all those next generation designs for IC chips and new cars, perhaps a guard dog might do the trick. The #DefenderofData campaign brings data to life to protect itself. Vormetric steps in as that guard dog, as that samurai, to do the dirty work. Read on: jet fighters aren’t just a metaphor in this sense.

But what does all this have to do with RSA, CSA and you?

Simply put, we want you to become a #DefenderOfData, and we are unveiling this new campaign at RSA next week to show you how. You live it every day, new forms of doing business demand outside access, and cloud implementations — while cost-effective — increase third-party access to your precious data, which can create additional risks.

CSO — Sol Cates — will be on hand to discussing how to design and implement a security system that protects your data as close to the source as possible, including combating insider threats. His talk in the briefing center at the South Expo Hall starts at 2:40 pm on February 26.

Vormetric news and an appearance by Sol are great, but let’s get into what we really want to know about: SWAG. As far as techie giveaways are concerned, RSA is nerdvana. This year, we’re stealing the show. In keeping with our theme, we’ll be raffling off 3 Top Gun flights during RSA. Vormetric booth visitors will also get light-up watches, Defender of Data t-shirts and some very cool origami kits.

We’re already hearing the buzz about the Top Gun flights: they’ll be a huge draw. If you win, you get to actually fly the fighter plane. Don’t worry: highly trained instructor pilots show you how to do a maneuver, then it’s your turn at the controls. (No flight experience is necessary; the instructors can still retain complete control from the back seat.) Talk about the high-adrenaline adventure of a lifetime! We’ll be the talk of the show.

For those who aren’t into plane acrobatics at high altitudes, we’ll also be giving out some cool origami kits. Why origami kits, you ask? Origami serves as a metaphor for the way in which data cannot defend itself. Data has no natural defenses; it can’t fly away, armor up, or burrow down. That means we need to protect it as close to the source as possible – a core offering of Vormetric.
