Thales is a founding member of the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA). MISA members are top experts from across the cybersecurity industry with the shared goal of improving customer security. Recently, Thales worked with fellow MISA member, archTIS to integrate CipherTrust Manager with NC Encrypt. Both companies offer advance data security as part the Microsoft Purview Information Protection products.

Together, CipherTrust Manager with NC Encrypt offers a viable solution for those customers using Microsoft Azure that are determined to keep their keys separated from their data in the cloud. Benefits to the customer include:

  • Demonstrate compliance with local data privacy regulations such as GDPR, PCI-DSS and CCPA
  • Independent management of encryption keys outside of the cloud
  • Leverage CipherTrust Manager to connect to existing HSMs
  • Centralized, scalable, and standards-based encryption key management

Released in October 2022, this joint solution is particularly interesting to organizations based outside of the U.S. that operate in the government, defense and manufacturing sectors and those needing to secure highly sensitive data.

Customers already using Thales HSMs that want the additional value of dynamic, policy-driven encryption can easily integrate with NC Encrypt. The virtual version of CipherTrust Manager can also be tried for free on the marketplace.

This is a first of kind solution for the dynamic policy-based encryption of content which allows customers to keep keys outside of Microsoft Azure and connect to leading HSMs, including Thales Luna HSMs, the foundation of digital trust. For additional levels of secure key management and access management, Thales CipherTrust Manager is a unique software that integrates applications that are located across on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environment and enables best practices for organizations wishing to comply with regulations such as:

  • Patriot Act
  • Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data Act (CLOUD Act)

The NC Encrypt Connector for Thales CipherTrust Manager offers dynamic data encryption and key management for protecting Microsoft 365 (M365) and SharePoint data. It provides the ability to conditionally apply policy-driven encryption of Microsoft 365 data in SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive, as well as SharePoint Server on-premises to keep data protected no matter where it is stored or travels: in use, in motion and at rest.

Encrypt business critical content in Microsoft applications including files (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, PDF, EML, VSDM, VSDX, TXT, CSV, PNG, JPG, BMP, TIF) and SharePoint list columns values. The solutions supports encryption in M365 applications (SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, Office 365) and SharePoint On-premises and works with both E3 and E5 subscriptions,

NC Encrypt is an add-on module to the base NC Protect offering to control access and apply data protection in a multi-tenancy environment using a single pane of glass to control policies across M365 apps and SharePoint on-premises.
